The Day After Tomorrow

because have been so long,

Do you have a favorite movie, I’m sure you do.

My favorite movie is “The day after tomorrow, and everything I see that movie I like to imagine myself in one of the actors. Well that was until NY weather decided to give everybody here a little bit of the movie, with a total live and real feeling. some of us would say this winter haven’t been as bad as is suppose to be for this time of the year, other would just dislike winter completely. Me, I can’t really decide yet what do I think, as looking at the weather on my phone I see more snow coming my way.

“when I saw this people waking outside with very little visibility, I really felt like I was in the movie”

Flushing – Main Street

Who doesn’t  like to travel and discover new cultures, people and places; well what if I say you can travel to Asia in New York, I know what are you thinking you have heard about  Manhattan’s Chinatown. But this time I’m talking about Flushing Main Street. I had talked about this place in my other blogs but it was very briefly so I had decide to make a blog about it.

If you have ever wonder how is too live in Asia, or become fluent in Mandarin or Korean language this is your place to be. Downtown Flushing is known for its Bakeries,  easy transportation into Manhattan and for their  “Most authentic Asian cousin”

The second most crowded place in NYC after Times Square of course.  Walking around Main you might feel you have felt the New York. every where you look around in Main Street is not written in English anymore or at least the biggest sings is all about Chinese Mandarin or Korean. I just found that fascinating how a place can change so much, and of course the majority of the population in Flushing is Asian even going to a super market is a totally different adventure, got to say not my favorite but still fun.

I love how Flushing keeps growing with technology and their nice looking scenery, buildings and shops. And most of the food, I would lie if I say I didn’t have some favorites, because every time I’m in Flushing I like to try new things and so far i have never been disappointed. But if you are thinking on going for the first time i will share some of the places you need to try fist.

Queens Crossing Mall on the ground level food court – It’s like entering to a whole new world of the best Asian food. Japanese, Taiwanese, korean, chinese and so much more

The Coop- Original Korean style chicken

The Spot- Most delicious desserts, with a twist of adventure, all for pictures and Instagram posts.

Bubble Tea- they are pretty much in every Corner in Main street, refreshing and delicious drinks with tapioca.

XIAN famous food- Their Lamb soup is just a party of flavors, highly recommend this place. Also if you are vegetarian you will find a lot to choose from in any of this places.

Now you know if you are feeling adventures and want to try something new hop on the “Seven Train” and get of on the last stop Flushing Main Street.

BYE 2017 New Years eve.

Let me start with I can’t really believe I’m writing  this Dec. 30 2017. I don’t know about you but this year went by so fast, is pretty crazy how time is running I almost felt like this year was shorter that the others, but I’m glad to say that I got to finish so many  projects I was working on, and finally decided to take action on my blog.

Another great year in this crazy amazing city, this year winter is not joking for sure, its been super cold windy and snowy.  as always during holiday season the city is really busy. Let say that during this season always take me double of the time moving around the city, so many people from all over the world. I like to play with my sister as we talk around the city “guess in what language they are speaking” Something that never gets old is to see the reaction of people faces when they see something in the city for the first time.

the city is getting ready for the special count down in times square tomorrow and for the many who like to go out and welcome the new year in Times Square I will give you some tips: 1- Make sure you get to Times Square early enough so you can pick your spot, and when I say early I’m not joking.  2- make sure you eat good because you might not be able to leave your spot. 3- bundle up  the weather tomorrow it will be freezing,  last but not lease ENJOY every single minute left you have this year. go out of your comfort zone and take the best before you say goodbye 2017 and Hello 2018!

Free NYC Attractions

I’m sure you have heard that NYC is the place to be, and the truth is that even though that cost of living here is very high. What you didn’t know is that pretty much all most famous NY attraction are “FREE” sounds great right? You can walk up and down in the city and wont cost you a penny, and if you are lucky you might see a movie being film or Nick Jonas rehearsing for the MTV awards right on 34ST & 8th ave. (That had happened to me a few times)

So here are some of the places that won’t cost you nothing and  I’m sure you will enjoy and fall in love even more with this city

Brooklyn bridge and Brooklyn bridge park . The views you will get from this places are amazing. and if you are feeling hungry you can try NY most famous pizza places Juliana’s or Grimaldi’s don’t let the long lines outside the restaurants stop you for trying authentic NY pizza the wait is so worth it. While you are enjoying the walk up in the Brooklyn Bridge make sure to watch out for crazy bike riders I had seen so many people get hit by bikers.

High Line in Chelsea, and The Chelsea Market. These 2 places are great the High Line is such an enjoyable place for walking and while you enjoy the views you are surrounded by nature and some great pieces of art. Chelsea Market is just fun to see you will find so many different places to eat and shop.

Soho.Who doesn’t like to shop, well if you do Soho is your place to be, so many different shops pretty much you will find all the most popular stores. and who knows you might end up walking side by side with super model. They like to shop in Soho.

Rockefeller. IF you travel to NYC you will enjoy to take a walk to Rockefeller the streets are all lit up and you can see the Ice skating rink, i would recommend the ice skating ring in Bryant park or central park they are just a little bit bigger.

The Metropolitan Museum and Museum of Natural History. They are so worth a full day to spend in there learning about history. the museums are huge so they are a full day of reading and learning. The Moma is a contemporary Museum, you will have to pay to enter on that one but if you go on Wednesday entrance is free so is the Bronx zoo.

The real NYC struggle

why is so hard to stay positive?

In a city like NYC is a little more hard to stay calm and positive all the time and mostly because everybody around you is in their own world , if you have visit NYC before you will  see a very familiar characteristics, pretty much EVERYBODY “wears headphones and walks with a nice cup of coffee in their hands”, and the true is that the life style in NY is so fast and so busy that for a lot of people putting their headphones ON is kind of like a disconnection with their surrenders and the entrances of their very own world.

make a living in NY is a total different story for everybody but since is so expensive you have to spend more time at work than your own home, I have the opportunity to see it from 3 different perspectives .

First you have the typical job in the other side of the city and for anybody who commute to work knows the struggle that the NYC subways is, you never know if the train is working or is delay or pretty much whats going on with the system, so from their you end up late at work and the boss will never understand that you got up at 5:00 am to be on time but that didn’t happen, so from then on you are grumpy with the whole word and the transportation system in NYC.

Second the typical family with 4 kids who lives in the suburbs of NYC and have to commute to the city thru the Metro North or Long Island Rail Rode is about 25 min by train to get to the city and from then on the adventures begins. trying  to get out of Penn station or Metro North, since they are part of the tourist parts of NY is really hard to speed walk in there and take the electric stairs is really annoying because of those who don’t understand the unspoken NY rule about stepping aside and let the (fast people/rush timers ) go ahead, so remember this next time you are in the city “if somebody push you or tells you to move aside don’t be offended, they are probably just trying to get to work on time”.  going back with the example when you had finish your work, getting back home is another challenge, and when you finally get home, most likely very stress out,    to that add to the list a  house full of chores and 4 screaming children demanding for attention of the parents totally understandable but overwhelming, so good sleeping time is far from a dream. Now put that on a 5 days a week of work. extremely stressful.

Third the one who has 2 jobs day/night and as tired and overwhelming that sounds is a sad reality, nobody can work non stopping but that’s the life of some New Yorkers  and they somehow make that happen,

That’s why being positive depends pretty much of each person, everybody have their own story to tell not always is easy but you make it happen because you know you can do anything and you will do what is necessary to provide for yourself and your family, try to keep a positive and happy attitude, start with yourself, that will help others to have the same attitude towards them.

We all are trying to make it happen.

The City of Guap

A lot of people have ask me how much money can you spend in NYC on a regular day

well all depends  of what you are doing or where are you going, but for today’s blog we will do a regular day. A frugal and careful but still want to have fun kind of day.

On a normal day hanging out with friends will start with taking the subway to move around the city ,  that would cost around $10.00 with a metro card

after that one of my friends suggest to go bowling at Bowlmor at Chelsea piers what a fun place that is, nothing extraordinary, possibly there are other places that are not as pricey as that one. But that’s what you do when you have a group of friends, it was around $12 each person plus $6 rental shoes,  for one game. after bowling we went out to eat and  I think that’s the tricky part where you eat,  NYC  have so many delicious options of course we are not talking fast food here which it can be more cheap, So we decided to go to Williamsburg, Brooklyn  if you are visiting New York that’s one stop you need to make, you can find there great restaurants, bars, eclectic shops and so much nightlife attractions, its such a hipster place, I personally like it a lot. one of my go to places to eat is Sea – a Thai restaurant food is great and price wise is very affordable. So I start  my dinner with an entrée I order their famous southwestern soup $5.50 and my main course I had Thai noodles with seafood $13.00 and to drink I just order tap water. (Funny thing I discover sometimes drinks are more expensive than food, not only at Sea but pretty much everywhere in NYC) After dinner we went for dessert, we went to this place I saw good reviews about it’s called “Martha’s bakery” also in Williamsburg Brooklyn. lets just day the place is really, really pricey. I had there the Berry Napoleon  a tiny slice was $7.00 with a cup of hot chocolate $5.50  ((I have a sweet tooth)) I was even more surprise to find out is that is a dollar more expensive to eat at the place than to take it to go. I don’t  think I will be going very often there.

There you go a total normal day in the city cost me $59.OO
